Day-care includes care of all children at different ages, whether full-time or part-time during day-time hours (6 am to 6 pm) in all institutions where attendance is checked by a public authority. If a child is registred in more than one form of day-care, the child is only reported once.

Denmark

Children enrolled in day-care as of October 1st, registered in population as of December 31st. Break in time series in 2017. Data before and after 2017 can therefore not be compared. Data from 2017 onwards include children in daycare in municipal and self-governing institutions converted to full time enrolled, from which no total can be calculated. Private day care is included for the 0-2 year olds.

During the period 1990-2006; it was not possible to split up the 10-13 year olds, therefore there are no data for the 10 year olds.

Greenland

Children enrolled in day-care as of January (no specific date), registered in population as of January 1st.

Finland

Children enrolled in day-care as of December 31st, registered in population as of December 31st. Includes Åland.

Åland

Children enrolled in day-care as of December 31st, registered in population as of December 31st.

Iceland

Children enrolled in day-care as of December 31st, registered in population as of December 31st. Compulsory school starts at the age of 6. Only children in day-care included, not children in after school arrangements. Percent of age group is for children 0-5 years old.

Norway

Children enrolled in day-care as of December 15th, registered in population as of December 31st. Compulsory school starts at the age of 6. Only children in day-care included, not children in after school arrangements.

Sweden

Children enrolled in day-care as of October 15th, registered in population as of December 31st. From 1999, children in open kindergartens are not included in the total number of children in kindergartens.
